Southport's Pequot Library Extends Art Show Entry Deadline SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- The art entry deadline for submissions to Pequot Library’s 18th annual art show has been extended to 4 p.m. Saturday. The art show is from Friday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct. 23. The money raised provides annual support for more than 500 programs and library services at Pequot Library.  The art show, "Exploring the Landscape of Art, Exploring the Art of Landscape," is open to all artists working in any style, subject or medium. Nancy Sokolowski-Kolb, Longtime Nurse In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. -- Nancy Sokolowski-Kolb, wife of Todd Kolb, of Ridgefield, died Saturday, Oct. 3. Born in Providence, R.I., in 1937, she and her family moved to Norwalk in the early 1960s.  Her 50-year career as a nurse included more than 30 years at Norwalk Hospital in various areas of specialization, including surgery, private duty and hemodialysis. In mid-career, she chose to specialize in what became her lifelong crusade -- to help women diagnosed with breast cancer. Beacon Woman Faces Charges In Alleged Day Care Benefit Scam BEACON, N.Y. -- A Beacon woman has been charged with grand larceny and welfare fraud after being accused of receiving day care benefits while her husband was able to care for her children, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.  Cindy River is facing felony charges of third-degree grand larceny and third-degree welfare fraud after her arrest by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, the Journal reported.  Rivera, 37, is accused of collecting about $41,000 in benefits between July 2011 and July 2012, according to the Journal.  To read the full report, click here.

New Canaan Woman Reports $8K Watch Stolen At Darien Gym NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A New Canaan woman told police her $8,000 watch was stolen while she was working out at a Darien gym, according to a report in New Canaan News Online.  The 34-year-old woman said she had place her diamond-studded Rolex wristwatch in an exercise machine's cupholder at Equinox Gym at 72 Heights Road in Darien, the story said. Fair Lawn Amends Traffic Ordinance FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- The Fair Lawn Borough Council has amended a traffic sign ordinance after officials raised concerns about some of the provisions, according to a report in NorthJersey.com.  The ordinance would prohibit stopping or standing on a section of Broadway, ban right-on-red turns at two intersections and approve a new stop sign, North Jersey.com reported.  Councilwoman Lisa Swain raised concerns about the no-stopping/standing ban near the train station, according to NorthJersey.com. Margareta B. Nylund, 74, of Wyckoff WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Margareta B. Nylund, of Wyckoff, died Sunday, Sept. 27. She was 74. Born in Narpes, Finland, she immigrated to the United States in 1961. She lived in Ridgewood and Saddle River before moving to Wyckoff.  She and her husband were the owners of Nylund Construction in Wyckoff for 25 years. She was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church.  Her husband, Fjalar S.
