Shirley Bowman Benham, 87, Longtime Millbrook Resident

MILBROOK, N.Y. — Longtime Milbrook resident Shirley Bowman Benham died on Friday, April 22. She was 87.

The seventh of seven children, Benham grew up in Millbrook and graduated from Millbrook High School.

She was a homemaker and served as a member of the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club, the Millbrook Historical Society and a member of the Lyall Memorial Federated Church where she was very active in the Millbrook Meals on Wheels program for several years.

Her husband, Stanley H. Benham Jr., predeceased her three weeks ago with both dying exactly 22 days before their 88th birthday. She also was predeceased by her six siblings.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Thomas and Beatrice, William and Lynda and Stephen and Margaret. 

She also is survived by grandchildren Renee, Michael, Bradley, Jill, Matthew and Garrett Benham, and two great-granddaughters Clarissa and Page Hart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Meals on Wheels in care of Lyall Memorial Federated Church, 30 Maple Ave., in Millbrook. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the Lyall Memorial Federated Church.
