19-Year-Old Engaged In Sexual Conduct With Child In Dutchess, Police Say

A 19-year-old man is facing a felony charge after a police investigation determined he allegedly had sexual contact with a child in Dutchess County, state police investigators said.

An investigation by New York State Police detectives and the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center led to the arrest of Jairon Gregorio Mendez, who was charged with a felony count of first-degree course of sexual contact with a child on Monday.

Police said the investigation was initiated as a result of a law enforcement referral to the New York State Central Registry for Child Abuse, which determined that Hillsdale resident Mendez engaged in a course of sexual contact with a child, whose age was not released.

Gregorio Mendez was arraigned in the town of Amenia Court on Monday afternoon and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or property bond. Gregorio Mendez is due to appear in Dover Court later this year to answer the charge.
