Amenia Man Had Sexual Contact With Sleeping Girl, Police Say

A 25-year-old from Dutchess County is facing a felony charge after allegedly sexually abusing a teenager was sleeping in his apartment after drinking alcohol, police said.

On Tuesday, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Dover Plains announced the arrest of Amenia resident Jake Wheeler, who is facing multiple charges for allegedly having sexual contact with a 16-year-old.

According to police, on Monday, troopers arrested Wheeler, following reports that he allegedly supplied his victim with alcoholic beverages before having sexual contact with her while she was sleeping in his apartment.

Wheeler was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child. 

He was arraigned in Town of Amenia Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. 

The court issued an Order of Protection, refraining Wheeler from contact with his victim, and he is due back in court later this week.
