Babysitter gets 30 years for streaming sex abuse of girl, 5

A Manalapan babysitter was sentenced today to 30 years in federal prison — followed by lifetime supervised release with restricted access to minors — for sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl, streaming it online and emailing videos of it recorded with her iPhone.

Jennifer Mahoney, 33, admitted abusing the girl more than once while others watched the attack.

“Today’s sentence is a just and fair punishment for a crime that illustrates just how despicable child pornography is,” U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

“Not only did Mahoney totally betray [a] trust by subjecting her to multiple sexual assaults, but that little girl’s nightmare will be available for others to watch over and over,” he said.

“No prison sentence can repair the damage Jennifer Mahoney has done,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department, “but today’s sentence is appropriate punishment for such heinous crimes committed against a defenseless victim.”

Mahoney admitted she streamed an assault through Skype and recorded another on her iPhone and emailed it to at least one other person.

FBI agents and other law enforcement officers raided Mahoney’s home on Dec. 13, 2011 after finding three videos of the assaults on a laptop seized from a Texas man arrested for trafficking in child porn.

Two of the videos were of the Skype session, in which Mahoney is shown molesting the child while laughing and talking to someone on the other end.

The third shows her doing the same while recording it on her iPhone.

One of the videos runs about four minutes and shows Mahoney engaging in oral sex on the sleeping child, authorities said.

In the iPhone video, she tells the child to bend over so that she can rise her.

“Like a mermaid?” the girl asks.

“Like a mermaid, sweetheart,” Mahoney responds, before committing an act that won’t be repeated here.

Mahoney, who reportedly had a large back tattoo of fairies purposely designed to seem like children’s art, even even bragged about it to the Texas man on Facebook, authorities said.

“I have tried to give her stuff before, I gave her [X]anax but I was terrified of giving her too much so I gave her just crumbs and it didn’t do anything,” she wrote in one of their chats.

Fishman credited the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office with the investigation that led to the guilty plea and sentence. Handling the case were Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Clabby of Fishman’s Criminal Division in Trenton and Attorney Keith A. Becker in
Washington, D.C.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a 5-year-old Justice Department initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
