Zane A. Grey was felling trees with a chainsaw, clearing a vacant parcel of land located on Mallory Road when he was struck and became pinned underneath a large tree, said Trooper Melissa McMorris.

First-responders arrived on scene and immediately attempted to remove the victim from underneath the tree. He subsequently lost consciousness and troopers, assisted by EMStar EMS, commenced life-saving measures.

The victim was transported to Mid-Hudson Region Hospital where he later died, McMorris said.

The incident remains under investigation and appears to be accidental in nature.

The State Police were assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Also responding to the scene were Union Vale Rescue Squad, the Union Vale Fire Department, and EMStar Ambulance.
