Poughkeepsie Shooting Victim Dies In Hospital

A 20-year-old local man who was shot on Monday in Poughkeepsie has died from his wound.

Jaquain Johnson of Poughkeepsie was shot around 3:42 a.m. Monday in the area of  Mill Street and Garden Street, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.

Responding officers found Johnson, formerly from the Bronx, shot once in the chest lying in the middle of the westbound lanes of the arterial highway. He was transported by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday, Johnson died from the single gunshot wound, Clark said.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled Johnso died from the gunshot wound. 

Johnson's shooting was the fourth in nine days in the city. The other five victims survived.
