The two victims, one from Red Hook and the other from LaGrange, were both experiencing life-threatening overdoses when the deputies were able to reverse the effect of the drugs, said Capt. John Watterson.
The first save took place around 11:30 p.m. Friday when deputies were dispatched to a home on Harvard Street in Red Hook for a call of an overdose. When deputies arrived they found a man who was unconscious, Watterson said.
Two doses of Narcan were administered, one by a deputy and one by an EMS employee before the victim regained consciousness. He was then transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment, he added.
The second event took place at 12:15 a.m. Sunday when deputies responded to a call for an overdose on Route 82 in LaGrange, Watterson said.
When deputies arrived on scene they found a woman who was not breathing and unconscious. The deputies administered Narcan and began CPR. The victim started breathing again before being transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment, Watterson said.
An investigation into both cases revealed that heroin had been used by each victim, he said.
"Sheriff Anderson and all of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are very proud of these deputies and the swift actions that they took to help save the lives of these victims," Watterson said. "However these cases also highlight the unfortunate reality that heroin and other drugs are continuing to threaten lives in Dutchess County and beyond."
He added that the sheriff’s office will continue to work with local and federal law enforcement, as well as medical professionals and community groups, in the ongoing effort to combat the opioid epedimic.
