The exemption, which was made law by the state in 2013, is available in the majority of school districts in Dutchess County – Arlington and the Poughkeepsie City School District are the only exceptions, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

School board president Kelly Lappan said at the board meeting Tuesday that the board has held off because of the impact the exemption would have on other taxpayers, The Poughkeepsie Journal story said.

Vets have also suggested that the tax break be included as a referendum when the public votes on the school budget in May, The Poughkeepsie Journal story said.
