A youth travel baseball team from Dutchess County advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship game.

The Poughkeepsie 10 years old and under travel baseball team called Lightning qualified for the playoff after a sensational 33-2 season. But they fell one win shy of advancing to the World Series in Indiana.

"We had quite a day yesterday during the championship," one of the player's grandparents, Nancy Cservak, told Daily Voice. "Sadly, the boys lost to the Flood City, Pennsylvania team, 11-2. So they finished the season 33-3 and had a great run."

The young baseball stars spent the previous four days in South Plainfield, NJ, playing teams from Delaware, New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The wonderfully talented group of 13 boys from Poughkeepsie won their League, District and South Eastern, N.Y. State championships.

"We'd like to thank their coaches for their patience and dedication in making the team what it is, and all the parents, friends, and family for their continuous support," Cservak said.

"Brian is my grandson and usually plays left field," Nancy Cservak said. "He made an amazing jumping catch of a fly ball to left to win the game that put them in the final."

Shown in the team photo are, from left to right, front row: John Esposito, Dylan Boenig and Michael Neuer; middle row: Noah Bogdan, Tyler Durkin, Nico Simou and Ethan Paredes; top row: Bryan Hoyt, Declan Gallagher, Brian Cservak, Gian Carlo Henry and Jaden King.  (Missing for the group photo was James Townsend.)
