Washington Engine Company In Croton-On-Hudson Holds Training
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- A dozen members of Washington Engine Co. No. 2 recently rode to the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla for a night of training. Members reviewed self contained breathing apparatus basics, and then navigated the mask confidence course during the session on May 2. Members were put into teams of two or three and went through the course twice. The first time their vision was left intact, the second time it was blacked out. This training was a good review for the more seasoned members, and a great learning experience for the newer ones.

Native Dominican Educator Visits Valhalla High School Spanish Students
VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Jose Cenac, a Dominican-born writer, visited Valhalla High School's Spanish classes to discuss culture and history of his native country. Cenac met with the students on April 29. He currently works as a teacher in the Bronx and is pursuing a second Master's degree in Childhood Education with a Bilingual Extension in Spanish at Lehman College. To build upon the students' prior knowledge of Dominican history that they learned in class, Cenac recited an autobiographical poem titled "¿De dónde soy?" which translates In English to "Where Am I From?" Human Rights Activist Arn Chorn-Pond Speaks At Millbrook School
MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- Millbrook School welcomed human rights activist Arn Chorn-Pond to the campus on April 29. He joined classes throughout the day and addressed students and faculty that evening. Chorn-Pond was born in Cambodia in 1966 and is a survivor of the Pol Pot Regime and the Cambodian communist movement under the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. Clearwater Supports New York’s Clean Energy Fund
BEACON, N.Y. --Clearwater announced it supports the New York State Public Service Commission's approval of a 10-year, $5 billion Clean Energy Fund to accelerate the growth of New York's clean energy economy. The fund will attract and leverage third-party capital to support a Clean Energy Standard to meet 50 percent of electricity needs with renewable resources by 2030. DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dutchess Tourism, Inc. is celebrating National Tourism Week and 32 years of helping the tourism industry in Dutchess grow. Over the years, tourism has become a major contributor to the economy of the Hudson Valley region. In 1984 visitor spending was $94 million, generating $950,000 in sales tax. By 2014, that figure had jumped to $508 million in spending and $35.9 million in local sales tax. New Rochelle School Board Candidates Address Issues At Forum
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Parent Teacher Association Council of New Rochelle is hosting a Board of Education candidate forum Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the New Rochelle High School Library.Each candidate will have up to two minutes for an opening statement. The four candidates will then answer 12 questions posed by each PTA unit, SEPTA, and the PTA Council. Candidates will have two minutes to respond to each question. Ramapo Detectives Set Off On Bike Ride To D.C. For Charity
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo Police Detectives Tommy Hatch, Peggy Braddock, and Rob Fitzgerald began a roughly 300-mile bike ride to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. The detectives are doing this trip as part of the Police Unity Tour, raising funds for the Police Memorial by riding in memory of Police Officers who died in the line of duty during 2015. Four Charged With Sexual Assault Of Four-Year-Old In Hudson Valley
GOSHEN, N.Y. -- Four people have been charged in the sexual assault of a 4-year-old in Newburgh, according to multiple reports.Police said the investigation began May 2, after the boy's biological father expressed concern and the boy was brought to the Albany Medical Center for treatment of numerous injuries, according to the Middletown Times-Herald Record.
