Lake Peekskill Native Serves In Navy Reserve Seabees
LAKE PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Christopher Nelson, a Lake Peekskill native and 2010 Putnam Valley High School graduate, is serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve as it celebrates its 100th year protecting America. Petty Officer 2nd Class Nelson is part of a group of Americans who serve their country in uniform part time while also working full-time jobs outside the military. Bill Mandates Kindergarten For All Yonkers 5-Year-Olds
YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers will join the other Big Five School Districts in New York state by requiring 5-year-olds in the city to attend kindergarten. The Yonkers state legislative delegation, including Sens. Andrea Stewart-Cousins and George Latimer and Assembly members Gary Pretlow and Shelley Mayer, sponsored and passed legislation to increase kindergarten attendance in the city. Port Chester Chef Gets Involved In Carver Center Garden
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Charlie Sacco, a chef and active member of the Port Chester Knights of Columbus, works part time at Whole Foods and just started as prep chef at the Carver Center. Carver has its own vegetable garden, whose produce Sacco plans to use in meals for the campers. Campers get breakfast and a hot lunch. Many campers go to camp on scholarship. The center also has a food pantry, and campers are given bags of institutional-size groceries to bring home to their families.
