Ridgefield Students To Receive Chromebooks In New Learning Initiative RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Ridgefield Public Schools will be giving students Chromebooks as part of the new "1:1" Digital Learning Initiative. Beginning in September, all students at East Ridge Middle School and Scotts Ridge Middle School will receive a Chromebook. Students will use the device in and outside of school as a means to optimize learning through research, communication, collaboration, creation, and education, the district announced. Darien To Test Water Quality Of Goodwives River DARIEN Conn. -- The Darien Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters will study the water quality in Goodwives River. “We want to ensure that our waterways are clean for the benefit of all our citizens,” said Flip Huffard, Chair of the Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters. Beginning in August, the study is being conducted for Darien by Harbor Watch, a program of Earthplace in Westport and is expected to be completed in the coming year. Bridgeport Lions Club Gala Supports Anna Baum Skane School BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Members of the Bridgeport Lions Club will honor the Anna Baum Skane School in Bridgeport on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn Hotel. A portion of the proceeds raised and donated by community members will be used to support the Skane School to assist in early childhood education services for more than 280 children ages three to five with a variety of special needs. Deborah Ann's Sweet Shoppe Hosts Ridgefield Police For Cops And Cones RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe hosted the Ridgefield Police Department recently for the Cops and Cones program. On Wednesday, Aug. 24 officers were at Deborah Ann's at 381 Main St. to answer questions and interact with the community for a couple of hours. A police car was on display and officers gave out items for kids. Deborah Ann’s also offered a discount on ice cream cones during the event.

Greenwich High Students Debut Documentary On Water Desalination GREENWICH, Conn. — Two Greenwich High School students will debut a new documentary film they created about a revolutionary approach to water desalination. Monroe Police Remind Drivers To Be Safe As New School Year Begins MONROE, Conn. -- The new school year in Monroe begins on Thursday, Sept. 1 and police are asking the public to help make it a safe one.The Monroe Police Department reminds all motorists to slow down and be alert for children at cross walks and bus stops. Keep a safe distance from school buses and be patient while the buses safely transport our students. The fine for passing a stopped school with the bus's flashing red lights activated is $465 for a first offense and a Misdemeanor Summons for subsequent offenses. DOT Sets Hearings To Discuss Fare Increases For CTTransit, Metro-North STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced public hearings to discuss proposed bus and rail fare increases; changes to the tariffs for bus services; and implementation of a new account-based smart card fare payment system.
