An off-duty Summit detective, who his department says saved a crash victim’s life at Lake Hopatcong, has been recognized for his heroism.
Detective Darin Sliker was honored Tuesday, July 29, at a Summit Common Council meeting for his actions on June 28, while spending time with friends in Lake Hopatcong, according to Summit Police Chief Ryan Peters.
After a day of boating, Sliker and others returned to a family friend’s home. Two guests walked to retrieve a vehicle down the street when, moments later, a loud crash and screams came from the front of the house.

A South Jersey man and one-time aide to former NJ Gov. Chris Christie has pleaded guilty to possessing and creating child sex abuse images, officials said.
Kevin Tomafsky, 43, of Washington Township (Gloucester County) pleaded guilty on Monday, July 28, to first-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child before Judge John C. Eastlack Jr., according to county prosecutors.

Vanessa Diaz Pichardo, 37, died after her Hyundai left the road and overturned before slamming into a tractor-trailer in Fort Lee just after 2 a.m. Monday, July 28, New Jersey State Police said.
