Careless Morning Smoker Sparked Fairfax County House Fire: Officials More than $300,000 in damages to a Fairfax County home could've been avoided, had the smoker in the house properly discarded materials, officials said. According to the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue department, the fire at a home on the 3000 block of Steven Martin Drive in Oakton broke out just before 9 a.m. on April 17 due to "improperly discarded smoking materials." Outfit-Repeating Home Depot Shoplifter ID'd In 30 Minutes: Stafford Sheriff Thirty minutes was all it took to identify a Home Depot shoplifter, police in Stafford County said. The sheriff's office put out an attempt to ID flyer after $4,400 worth of items were stolen from the Worth Avenue Home Depot on Sunday, April 22. In a matter of minutes, citizens identified the suspect as Eliezer Diaz Hernandez, 41, of Alexandria, the sheriff's office said. He was charged with grand larceny and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $10,000 secured bond. 20-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed In High-Speed Prince William County Hit-Run: Police A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash late Wednesday, April 24 in Prince William County, police said. Joseph Emmanuel Word was operating a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400R at high speeds southbound on Richmond Highway when he was struck by a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck heading north near the Pine Bluff Drive intersection around 10:20 p.m., county police said. Bomb Threat Clears Prince William County School (Developing) A bomb threat was called into a Prince William County elementary school Thursday morning, April 25, police said. Authorities were on scene at T Clay Wood Elementary School in Nokesville as of 10:15 a.m. a report of a bomb threat to the school. No devices were located and the school was evacuated temporarily. Volleyball Turns Violent: Brawling Stafford High School Student Charged With Assault A Stafford High School student has been charged in connection to a fight this week. The unnamed 18-year-old is wanted on a warrant for assault and battery in connection with the 1:20 p.m. incident on Tuesday, April 23, the county sheriff's office said. The fight broke out between two students during a game of volleyball, police said. No further information was released.

Body Found In River Near Four Mile Park A man's body was found in an Alexandria river on Wednesday, April 24, police said. Officers were called to the 4100 block of Mount Vernon Avenue near Four Mile Park around 1:30 p.m., the Alexandria Police Department said. The adult male was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy is expected to determine the cause and manner of death. Earlier in the week, Alexandria police announced a suspicious death investigation on North Henry Street. They said only that an injured man was found at the scene and later pronounced dead.
