USGS Confirms 2.7 Magnitude Earthquake In Bergen County
A 2.7 magnitude earthquake was confirmed in Bergen County on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 5, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The tremor struck at 12:11 p.m. EST about 2 kilometers southwest of Hillsdale, at a depth of 12.4 kilometers, according to the USGS.
According to the USGS, residents across dozens of towns in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and even as far as Massachusetts and Vermont reported feeling the quake.

A Paterson councilman was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 5, for allegedly pulling a false fire alarm inside City Hall last fall, prosecutors announced.
Luis Velez, 58, of Paterson, was taken into custody in Totowa without incident and charged with third-degree false public alarms, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

A New Jersey tax court judge has slashed the assessed value of the American Dream megamall in East Rutherford by $850 million, marking a nearly 50% drop this year alone, Bloomberg reports.
