Teen Cheerleader Critical After Struck By Hit, Run Vehicle In Newark: Prosecutor, Report An 18-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a hit and run vehicle in Newark on Sunday, Feb. 4, authorities said. At 10:15 p.m., the girl was struck on the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. She was taken to University Hospital, Stephens said. According to ABC7, the girl is a cheerleader who had just returned to Newark Arts High School following a competition.  The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating the crash, Stephens said.
