Firefighters Battle Frelinghuysen Chimney Fire Firefighters in Frelinghuysen Township battled a chimney fire that saw heavy smoke billowing on Monday evening, Jan. 22, the Allamuchy Fire Department said on Facebook and shared in a photo. At 9:20 p.m. the fire department responded to Heller Road in Frelinghuysen for fire. Firefighters requested mutual aid upon arrival after finding a working chimney fire that had spread to the attic, firefighters said.  Firefighters spent two hours on scene before clearing the area at 11:30 p.m., firefighters said. There were no reports of any injuries.

Student Arrested After Bringing Gun To Union Catholic HS: Police A student at Union Catholic High School was arrested after they brought a handgun to school on Monday, Jan. 22, authorities said. At 10:45 a.m., Scotch Plains police was alerted by the high school about a firearm being recovered, Jeffrey Briel, the chief of police, said. The school was immediately placed on lockdown as police recovered the weapon, Briel said. There was no threat or harm to the school, students or personnel, Briel said. A ticket sold in Emerson matched five of the five white balls in the Mega Millions drawing on Friday, Jan. 19, winning $1 million. The ticket was sold at Emerson Stationary.
