Firefighters Battle Frelinghuysen Chimney Fire Firefighters in Frelinghuysen Township battled a chimney fire that saw heavy smoke billowing on Monday evening, Jan. 22, the Allamuchy Fire Department said on Facebook and shared in a photo. At 9:20 p.m. the fire department responded to Heller Road in Frelinghuysen for fire. Firefighters requested mutual aid upon arrival after finding a working chimney fire that had spread to the attic, firefighters said.  Firefighters spent two hours on scene before clearing the area at 11:30 p.m., firefighters said. There were no reports of any injuries.

Student Arrested After Bringing Gun To Union Catholic HS: Police A student at Union Catholic High School was arrested after they brought a handgun to school on Monday, Jan. 22, authorities said. At 10:45 a.m., Scotch Plains police was alerted by the high school about a firearm being recovered, Jeffrey Briel, the chief of police, said. The school was immediately placed on lockdown as police recovered the weapon, Briel said. There was no threat or harm to the school, students or personnel, Briel said. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood school district as well as schools nearby were also placed in a temporary lockdown out of an abundance of caution, Briel said.…

The order was caused by police activity at the high school on Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains, police said. All schools in Scotch Plains and Fanwood were under the order as a precaution, police said. Bergen County Driver's Fake License Plates To Evade Tolls Didn't Get Him Far: Police A 33-year-old driver from Bergen County who was stopped in Morris County found a novel to avoid paying tolls, authorities there said. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly legal. Cha-Ching! $1M Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Bergen County It was a Friday to remember for a lottery player in Bergen County. A ticket sold in Emerson matched five of the five white balls in the Mega Millions drawing on Friday, Jan. 19, winning $1 million. The ticket was sold at Emerson Stationary. Another ticket sold in Morris County matched four of the white balls and the Gold Mega Ball, winning $10,000. The ticket was sold at Country Farm in Randolph.  The winning numbers for the drawing were: 01, 09, 16, 17, and 30. The Gold Mega Ball was 17, and the Megaplier Multiplier was 02.
