Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Police: Bichon Frisé Breaks Loose, Killed By Pit Bull On Glen Rock Street A pit bull killed a Bichon Frisé who’d broken loose while being walked on a Glen Rock street, authorities said. The plume-tailed toy dog slipped his harness while being walked by a young boy on Dean Street, Police Chief Dean Ackermann. As the boy ran home to get his help, a pit bull being walked by a 69-year-old man coming from the opposite direction grabbed hold of the other dog, the chief said. SEE Anything? Bullet Fired Into Clifton Home Misses 1-Year-Old Child A bullet fired into a Clifton home missed hitting a baby, authorities said. Police turned to the public Tuesday for help investigating the shooting, as well as another a few days later. They don't appear related, authorities said. The first occurred around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 12 on Hamilton Avenue. At least three rounds were shot into the front of a home occupied by a family, including a 1-year-old child, Police Lt. Hunterdon County Man Who Admitted Having Child Porn Gets Probation A Hunterdon County man who admitted having child porn images avoided jail time when a judge suspended a 180-day sentence and gave him plea-bargained probation. Paramus Detectives Nab Repeat Offender In Mall, Wendy's Burglaries A pair of Paramus detectives nabbed an accused burglar from Paterson who they said stole $485 from a mall kiosk and $150 from a local Wendy's. Body Of Boonton Mom Found Near Reservoir A body recovered near the Boonton Reservoir over the weekend was that of a suicidal local woman, authorities said. The 55-year-old married mother of two apparently left her car near a vehicle and foot bridge off Washington Street and Reservoir Drive, both of which run parallel to Route 287, they told Daily Voice. 'Tragic Accident': Driver, 70, Killed By Sanitation Truck In Teaneck Park UPDATE: A 70-year-old driver was killed when he was run over by his sanitation truck in a Teaneck park Monday morning, authorities confirmed. The victim "was in the process of preparing to off-load the truck’s contents" in Clarence W. FBI: Wanted Armed, Dangerous Paterson Gang Member Surrenders An armed and dangerous ex-con from Paterson surrendered to authorities after the FBI posted a $5,000 reward for his capture. Cesar David Valerio, a 28-year-old Dominican national, turned himself in to face several federal weapons violations, a bureau spokeswoman said. A U.S. District Court judge in Newark two weeks ago issued a warrant for the arrest of Valerio -- also known as "Chico Trini" -- after federal authorities charged him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
