Fairfield Firefighters Changing Batteries Of Smoke Detector For Seniors FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Every October, the Fairfield Fire Department offers a senior citizen smoke detector battery replacement program. This year's effort will run from Thursday, Oct. 8, to Monday, Oct. 19, during the morning and afternoon.  Every year, the Fairfield Fire Department changes the batteries in senior citizens' smoke detectors for free.
