DANBURY, Conn. – Naugatuck Valley Community College President Daisy Cocco De Filippis joined administrators, local legislators, students, faculty and community members at Danbury High School on Monday, Sept. 21, to cut the ribbon on the Early College Opportunity program launched this academic year. “Having spent the last year preparing to launch Danbury ECO, this day is surreal,” said Dan Donovan, principal of the DHS Freshman Academy and organizer of Danbury ECO. “It is great to see these 100 students excited about the program and its success.”

Westfair Singers Create Scholaship For High School Girls
GREENWICH, Conn. — The Westfair Singers, based in Greenwich, announced the creation of The Judith Hahnssen-Schwab Founder’s Scholarship Competition.
It is inviting musically talented, female high school seniors in Fairfield County, Conn., and Westchester County, N.Y., to submit applications by Oct. 16.
The program, honoring the legacy of the choral ensemble’s founder, identifies and supports young female vocalists and instrumentalists from Westchester and Fairfield counties with scholarship prizes and performance opportunities.

Fairfield Firefighters Changing Batteries Of Smoke Detector For Seniors
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Every October, the Fairfield Fire Department offers a senior citizen smoke detector battery replacement program. This year's effort will run from Thursday, Oct. 8, to Monday, Oct. 19, during the morning and afternoon.
Every year, the Fairfield Fire Department changes the batteries in senior citizens' smoke detectors for free. The simple act of changing a battery cuts the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half, firefighters said.
