Mosquitoes Carrying West Nile Virus Found In Rye, Mamaroneck: Here's How To Protect Yourself Two batches of mosquitoes in Westchester have tested positive for carrying the West Nile Virus, officials announced.  The two virus-carrying batches of the insects were caught in Rye and Mamaroneck and were this season's first batch to test positive, the Westchester County Department of Health announced on Friday, Aug. 25.  Following this discovery, the Health Department will now inspect the areas surrounding the positive mosquito batches and treat any catch basins holding standing water to prevent mosquito breeding if necessary.  The two batches to carry the virus were the…

Traffic Alert: Ramp Between I-684, I-287 In Harrison To Close Those traveling from Interstate 684 to Interstate 287 in Westchester will have to look out for an upcoming ramp closure that will interrupt traffic between the two highways.  The ramp from I-684 southbound to Exit 1 (Interstate 287) in Harrison will close starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.  The closure will then extend to 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26.  Affected motorists should use the posted detour to Westchester Avenue as an alternate route, officials said.  The closure is to facilitate ramp …

Vehicle Loses Control, Hits Tree On Taconic Parkway In Yorktown Emergency crews were sent to the Taconic State Parkway in Northern Westchester after a vehicle lost control and struck a tree, injuring the driver.  The incident happened on Thursday, Aug. 24 around 6:45 p.m., when fire crews responded to the southbound Taconic State Parkway in the area of the Mohansic Avenue ramp for a reported crash.  According to the Yorktown Heights Fire Department, arriving crews found out that a vehicle had spun out and hit a tree after losing control.  The driver was later taken to an area trauma center by the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.&…
