Linden ShopRite Worker Who Battled Brain Cancer For 17 Years Dies: 'Always Been A Fighter' Victor Vilela, a 42-year-old Elizabeth native, died on Monday, July 24, after a 17-year battle with brain cancer, according to his obituary. Born in Elizabeth, Vilela was an active member of a brain tumor support group and worked at Elizabeth General Hospital, ShopRite in Linden and Wegmans in Woodbridge, his obituary reads. He is survived by his wife, Meghan, his son, Mauricio, his parents, Maria and Acacio, his sister Sonia as well as other family members, according to his obituary. Man Arrested Following Backyard Foot Pursuit: Linden PD A 21-year-old man was arrested after a foot chase through backyards in Linden on Tuesday, August 8, authorities said. At noon, police responded to the 200 block of Grand St. and learned Kyeshon Downer pointed at a rifle at another man and was still inside the home with a small child, officers said. Police surrounded the home and Union County S.W.A.T. was dispatched to the scene, officers said. Police determined Downer had fled the home and were able to remove the child, officers said. Two Busted Following Hotel Assault: Sheriff Two Fredericksburg residents were arrested following an assault at the Days Inn on Sunday, Aug. 6, authorities said. At 9:25 p.m., police were called to Simpson Road hotel after a man said he was assaulted when he tried to kick two people out of his hotel room, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. NJ Man, 69, Sexually Assaulted Minor In Car In Parking Lot: Prosecutors A 69-year-old Whippany resident was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a minor in a parking lot, authorities said. Livingston officers responding to reports of suspicious activity in a car found Alan Kelsey, on Wednesday, Aug. 2, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said. Army Officer, 43, Killed In Loudoun County Motorcycle Crash A 43-year-old Sterling resident and former officer in the United States Army, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Sterling on Saturday, Aug. 5, according to authorities and those who knew him. Three People Shot Inside Kearny Apartment: Police Three people were shot at a party in Kearny early Monday morning, August 7, authorities said.
