$2M Lottery Jackpot Split Between Hudson, Mercer County Players It was the perfect way to kick off the long weekend for three New Jersey lottery players. Three lucky tickets, two sold in Hudson County and one in Mercer County matched all five numbers in the $2 million Jersey Cash 5 jackpot on Friday, May 26. Each winner will receive $696,440. One Killed In Newark Double Shooting: Prosecutors A 44-year-old Newark man was killed and another man was injured after being shot on the evening of Sunday. May 28, authorities said. At 6:30 p.m., police responded to Plymouth Street and South Munn Avenue and found Siddiq Amin Hooper suffering from a gunshot wound, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Newark Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle: Prosecutors A 49-year old Newark man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday, May 28, authorities said. Laquan Lamar Jones was struck by a vehicle on the 600 block of Springfield Ave at 1:55 a.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Some Of Essex County's Most Dangerous Fugitives Nabbed Warrant Sweep Some of the most dangerous criminals in Essex County were arrested in April as part of a multiagency warrant sweep, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced on Friday, May 26. Of the 43 fugitives, two of them were wanted for murder, while other crimes includes aggravated assault and weapons possession, Stephens said. NJ Amazon Driver's Killer Gets 25 Years Behind Bars: Prosecutor A 28-year-old Plainfield man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal shooting of an Amazon driver in 2021. Quahif Lane's sentence for aggravated manslaughter was handed down on Friday, May 26, by Union County Superior Court Judge Stacy Boretz, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. In September 2021, Plainfield Police responded to the 200 block of Garfield Ave and found Jamar Harris, a 36-year-old Newark resident, suffering from a gunshot wound, Daniel said. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, Daniel said.

Hotel Homicide: Bergen County Man Gets 25 Years Behind Bars A 32-year-old Bergenfield man was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for stabbing a man at a hotel in Elizabeth in 2022. The sentence for aggravated manslaughter was handed down to Javan Johnson on Thursday, May 25 by Judge Thomas Isenhour, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. In March 2022, Elizabeth Police responded to the Country Inn and Suites and found Marlon Pantin critically injured from being stabbed, Daniel said. The man was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Daniel said.

One Injured In Large Linden Fire (Developing) A large fire engulfed a home in Linden on Friday morning, May 26, authorities said. Everyone was able to evacuate from the home on the 1100 block of Forest Drive, Captain Christopher Guenther of the Linden Police Department said. One person suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene, Guenther said. It is believed the fire began in the yard and spread into the home, Guenther said. Police ask that people avoid the area while firefighters remain on scene. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
