An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano Announcing Senate Run: Report YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano looks to be the next person to run for Senate in the 37th District.According to the Daily News, Spano is expected to announce he will seek the Democratic nomination for the seat vacated by George Latimer when he ascends to Westchester County Executive. KFC Closes In Ossining, Leaving It With Just One Northern Westchester Store There's one less place to get fried chicken in the area. The Kentucky Fried Chicken at 189 South Highland Ave. in Ossining has closed, leaving the fast-food chain with just one store in Northern Westchester - at the Beach Shopping Center in Peekskill. (Its Yorktown location had previously closed.) Inside the Ossining restaurant, the lights are off and the chairs are stacked up with a sign that says CLOSED on the front door. The Kentucky Fried Chicken website has also removed the location from its website. The restaurant was not well received by the community, only rating one star on Yelp. …

Ramapo Spring Valley Hornets Advance To Pop Warner Semifinals RAMAPO, N.Y. -- It's been a dream season for the Ramapo Spring Valley Hornets. The team advanced to the semifinals of the 61st Pop Warner Super Bowl after knocking off the Almaden Mustangs 36-14 at the Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Lawmaker Criticizes State's Mute Swan Plan A Queens senator wants to protect New York's swans. Sen. Tony Avella (D-Queens) has been critical of the state's Department of Environmental Conservation plans to control the mute swan population. In 2016, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into a law a bill imposing a two-year moratorium of the plan. In September, the DEC released another Mute Swan Management Plan, which Avella harshly criticized. Rep. Faso Rejects Gov. Cuomo's Call To Resign Rep. John Faso's (R-Kinderhook) "no" vote on tax reform was not enough for Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Last week, the governor said Faso, who represents the 19th District which includes a part of East Dutchess, did not do enough to stop the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act from being passed. Pleasantville Celebrates Championship Football Team With Parade PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- It was a day of celebrating and honoring the state champion Pleasantville Panthers football team. The village celebrated its state champions Sunday with a parade and proclamations. Pleasantville defeated Chenango Forks in Syracuse on Nov. 26 to capture the Class B title. The parade went from Bedford Avenue to Wheeler Avenue and ended at the front steps of the high school on Romer Avenue. Broken Fan Temporarily Closes Red Robin In Town Of Poughkeepsie It's been a long two days for burger lovers. The Red Robin on Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie was closed Sunday and Monday after an exhaust fan malfunctioned. The burger chain expects to reopen on Tuesday. The fan started malfunctioning Sunday afternoon, which caused smoke to build up in the kitchen and the restaurant to be shut down, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Howard Pier, 90, Former Armonk Resident ARMONK, N.Y. -- Howard J. Pier, 90, a former Armonk resident, passed away on Nov. 27 from Alzheimer's related dementia in Denver. Pier was born in Pennsylvania on Feb. 6, 1927. February 6, 1927. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in World War II. After the war, he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Detroit in electrical engineering. Pier married to Therese M. Hen Hud Partners With Lakota Indian Reservation School MONTROSE, N.Y. -- Students at Hendrick Hudson High School have made new friends...all the way in South Dakota. The Hen Hud students are mentoring the students at Pine Ridge Girls School, which is located on the Lakota Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
