Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Man Found Shot Dead In Car On Paterson Street A man was found shot dead before dawn in a parked car on a Paterson street, and authorities haven't yet said whether or not they consider it suspicious. They're seeking witnesses. The man, whom authorities were trying to identify, was found by officers acting on a tip in the area of Route 19 and Ward Street shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Labor Day Weekend Blaze Doused In Norwood Firefighters made quick work of a Labor Day weekend blaze that spread to a Norwood resident's garage. The borough's bravest responded to the call at 5 Meadow Court at 2:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, after the contents of a trash can apparently caught fire. They were assisted by their colleagues from Closter, Harrington Park, Haworth, Northvale, Old Tappan, Orangeburg and Tappan. Two Men From Paterson, One From Elmwood Park Wounded In Silk City Shooting A Labor Day weekend shooting in Paterson sent three men to the hospital. Police found two victims – one 28 from Elmwood Park and the other 33 from Paterson – while responding to a 2:40 a.m. call Sunday, Sept. 3, at Kearney Street and Union Avenue. Both were taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center with wounds that weren’t considered life-threatening. Prospect Park Home, Vehicle Burglaries Cracked With Arrest Of Habitual Paterson Offender A habitual offender was charged with burglarizing homes and vehicles in Prospect Park and elsewhere. Francisco Sanchez, 32, of Paterson had been busted for burglary in Paterson in May and spent a week in the Bergen County Jail before a judge released him pending further court action. He was back behind bars a month later – again for burglary, records show. Man Masturbates In Front Of Woman At Englewood CVS, Flees On Electric Scooter Authorities sought the public's help identifying a bearded man who masturbated in front of a woman in an Englewood CVS and then fled on an electric scooter. Update: 'Running' Man, 66, Struck, Killed By Train In Fair Lawn A 66-year-old man was struck and killed by a commuter train Thursday night in Fair Lawn. The man was struck by an NJ Transit train just off Fair Lawn Avenue across from the Radburn station platform shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. Smash-And-Grab Burglars Flee Fairview Deli With Cash, Lottery Tickets, Registers A burglary crew smashed their way into a Fairview deli overnight before making off with two cash registers, $800 in cash and lottery tickets, police said. Clifton Man Seized In $13M Indian Tech Support Scam: Seniors, Small Biz Owners Among Victims FBI agents seized a Clifton man in connection with an India-based $13 million tech support scam that targeted more than 7,000 victims, most of them elderly or small business owners, authorities said.
