Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Success! Englewood Police Reunite Wandering Senior With Family A senior suffering from memory loss was reunited with his family following a public appeal by Englewood police. The man -- whose name they believe is Jose Manuel Valero Gomez -- was found walking on a residential stretch of West Palisade Avene near the corner of Palisade Place. Ticketed Driver Dumps Full Soda Cup Into Ridgewood Parking Agent's Car, Flees, But Guess What? A motorist who found a ticket on his illegally parked vehicle in Ridgewood dumped a full cup of soda through the open driver's side window of a nearby parking agent's vehicle on Friday. A village police officer and patrol supervisor quickly responded to the scene of the Aug. 18 afternoon incident on Chestnut Street near East Ridgewood Avenue. Hackensack Police Officer Hospitalized After Crash A Hackensack police officer was hospitalized Friday following a collision on his way to a call. Initial details were scant apart from word that the officer was headed to a report of a fight in the area of Atlantic and Main streets, with his emergency lights on, when his cruiser collided with a commercial van in front of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Essex and Newman streets before 9:30 a.m. Aug. 18. Car Seller Near GWB Says 'Buyers' Carjacked Him Instead: Fort Lee PD A man who said he thought he was selling his car told Fort Lee police it was taken from him at gunpoint instead. Motorcyclist Fleeing Stop In Secaucus Crashes, Dies A motorcyclist who fled a traffic stop in Secaucus died after colliding with another civilian's vehicle, authorities said. The as-yet-unnamed motorcyclist was stopped by a Hudson County sheriff's officer on County Avenue shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Cresskill Real Estate Agent Bludgeoned, Stepson Charged With Murder A 48-year-old Cresskill real estate agent was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by her stepson, authorities confirmed Thursday. Borough police responding to a 911 call from her husband found the body of Irma Daniels in the family's Stonegate Trail townhouse shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
