Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Fire Doused At Elmwood Park Entertainment Company Firefighters doused a basement blaze Tuesday at an Elmwood Park entertainment company. The fire at Sound Surge on Market Street ignited around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1 and quickly went to three alarms as a precaution because of where in the building it was located, Elmwood Park Police Chief and Borough Administrator Michael Foligno said. Beloved Retired Police Officer From Bergen Dies In 'Freak Accident' In Sussex County A retired New York City police officer with deep ties in Bergen County died in what his husband called "a freak accident" in Sussex County. Update: Woman Pulled From Saddle River Pool Pronounced Dead At Humc Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Tuesday that the death of a 39-year-old woman found in a backyard pool the day before is being investigated. Saddle River police were called to the $2.7 million home on Fox Hedge Road off East Allendale Road at 4:26 p.m. Monday, July 31. Saddle Brook Firefighters Limit Damage From Kitchen Blaze Saddle Brook firefighters quickly doused a kitchen blaze on Monday, limiting the damage. The two-alarm fire broke out in the rear of the Congress Street home off Rochelle Parkway near westbound Route 80 shortly before 8 a.m. July 31. Firefighters forced their way in and got water on the flames while searching and ventilating the home. The fire was knocked down and under control in minutes. The Saddle Brook Fire Department urged all citizens to use smoke detectors and to be sure to dial 911 immediately to report any emergencies.
