Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

16-Year-Old Swimmer Drowns At Notorious Teen Hangout Known As 'Devil's Hole' A teenager drowned Saturday at a notorious off-limits summer hangout in North Jersey known as "Devil's Hole." Rescuers searched the wooded area and steep cliffs along the treacherous watering hole off Little Falls Road in Cedar Grove's Community Park for nearly an hour the night of July 8 before pulling the 16-year-old victim's body from the water. Occupant In SUV Crash Off Route 46 Gravely Injured, Responders Say Responders feared the worst for an occupant of an SUV that struck a townhouse Saturday morning in Lodi. The man went into cardiac arrest after the Honda Sante Fe crashed on Harrison Avenue, just off eastbound Route 46 near the Garfield border, shortly after 10:30 a.m. July 8. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. A female occupant apparently wasn't injured. Pickup Crashes On Banks Of Passaic River A driver escaped a far worse fate when his pickup truck overturned on a bank above the Passaic River in Garfield on Saturday. The truck ended up on its roof on the other side of a cement barricade at the Passaic Street bridge off River Drive shortly before 8:30 a.m. July 8. NJ Dealer Charged Federally With Selling Mix Of Fentanyl, Heroin That Killed User: Authorities A Somerset County man was seized by federal agents who charged him with selling a mix of fentanyl and heroin that killed a user in Plainfield. Officers responding to the victim’s home found two wax folds containing both drugs and bearing a unique stamp, which they linked to Thomas Kane Miller, 38, of Somerset, U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said. SUV Crashes Into Hasbrouck Heights Home, Ruptures Gas Line An SUV plowed into a Hasbrouck Heights home and ruptured a gas line overnight Saturday. Cyber Sleuths Bust Maywood Contractor With Child Porn: Bergen Prosecutor A divorced contractor from Maywood was caught collecting child porn, authorities said. Keith J. Balasa, 55, was arrested during a raid of his Lafayette Avenue home on Friday, July 7, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Clifton Teen Already Jailed In One Passaic Shooting Charged With Another Four days after authorities said he fired a gun at a sedan full of rivals in Passaic, a Clifton teen squeezed off 10 shots at another vehicle on the other side of the city, authorities said. Emmanuel Bernard, 18, was seized late last month in connection with a shootout on Brinkerhoff Place near Van Winkle Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. June 18. NJ Correctional Officer Indicted In Beating Of Resident Who Died A correctional police officer at New Jersey’s maximum-security facility for sex offenders was indicted for his role in the beating of a resident who died days later of a stroke.
