Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx. 

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Multi-Vehicle Crash Ends Paterson Police Pursuit A police pursuit ended with a multi-vehicle crash at an intersection on Paterson's east side. The crash involving a stolen Toyota Camry, an SUV and another sedan at the corner of 7th Avenue and East 26th Street near McLean Boulevard shortly after 9 p.m. Friday ignited a fire in one of the vehicles. Firefighters also were needed for an extrication, responders said. At least one suspect was taken into custody, they said. There was no immediate word on possible injuries, although at least one was considered life-threatening.

Woman Struck, Killed By Freight Train In Dumont A woman was struck and killed by a freight train Saturday morning in Dumont. The victim, wearing a pink sweater, was struck by the southbound CSX train just north of the New Milford Avenue crossing near West Shore Avenue around 10 a.m., responders said. Call Of Masturbator Outside Hasbrouck Heights Building Leads To Arrest Of Bronx Resident Police responding to a 911 call of a suspicious man in front of a Hasbrouck Heights apartment building arrested a Bronx resident who they said was carrying a kitchen knife and some cocaine. An officer responded to the Heights Apartments, at the corner of Williams and Burton avenues, on a call of a man who "appeared to be masturbating" outside shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report. The officer arrested Brandon Rivera, 32, after reportedly finding the knife and coke. Rivera remained held Friday in the Bergen County Jail, charged with drug and weapons possession.
