Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Seen HIM? Police Seek Help Finding Missing Bogota Man Authorities turned to the public for help Thursday finding a missing 48-year-old Bogota man. Felix E. Martinez left his home and headed toward Palisades Avenue around 7 a.m. Wednesday, borough police said. He "may be in need of medical attention," they said. Authorities asked residents and merchants to check their surveillance systems for possible images of Martinez. Anyone who has seen him, has video of him or knows where to find Martinez is asked to contact Bogota police at (201) 487-2400 or detectives@bogotapolice.org.

Tractor-Trailer Tips On Flyover At NJ/NY Border A tractor-trailer driver was injured when his rig tipped Wednesday afternoon on a notorious flyover near the Bergen/Rockland border. Police summoned firefighters to tend to a fuel spill following the crash on northbound Route 17 to the Route 287 ramp in Mahwah around 5:15 p.m. The stretch regularly has been the scene of crashes, many involving tractor-trailers. Witnesses said the driver’s injuries didn’t appear serious.

Swatting Incident: 'Shots Fired' Report At Garden State Plaza Turns Out Bogus A call to Paramus police that shots were fired Wednesday morning at the Garden State Plaza proved bogus, authorities said. None of the businesses had opened yet at the mall -- although mall walkers and workers were there -- when the "swatting" call came in around 8:30 a.m. that shots had been fired at the T-Mobile kiosk. Former Food Network Chef Charged With Pointing Gun At Vehicle In Montvale An executive chef who’s been featured on The Food Network was arrested after police in Montvale said he pointed what looked like a real gun at a vehicle stopped at a light. Another motorist alerted officers that Klaus Hoops, 60, was “screaming out the window” of a Railroad Avenue building (photo above) while pointing what appeared to be a handgun at people in the car in front of him, Montvale Police Chief Joseph Sanfilippo said Wednesday. Help Sought For Family Of Bergen Man Believed Drowned In Lake Tahoe Funds are being raised to help pay for an anguished Dumont family’s trip to Lake Tahoe, where a 29-year-old member was believed drowned. Ryan Normoyle of Closter had been vacationing when his rented boat was found drifting near shore on Aug. 10. What began as a search and rescue soon turned into a recovery mission that, as of Wednesday, was still continuing. The Coast Guard had gotten a call of the boat drifting near Glenbrook, Nevada, off the East Shore around 6 p.m. Monday, authorities said. Fire Guts Fair Lawn Home Fair Lawn’s second fire in as many days ravaged a borough home early Wednesday. Heavy flames in the rear spread to the second-floor bedroom and attic of the 2½-story home at the corner of 15th Street and Ellis Avenue around 7 a.m., responders said. Authorities: Suspects Nabbed In Cliffside Park Among Dozens Charged In Statewide ATM Thefts Eleven suspects seized in Cliffside Park following a brief pursuit were among dozens arrested statewide Tuesday for exploiting a glitch that allowed them to steal tens of thousands of dollars from ATM machines at banks throughout New Jersey and in New York City. Feds Charge Former Local Party Committee Chairman With Lying On Tax Returns, Student Aid Apps A public relations specialist and former local Democratic chairman from Union County lied both on his tax returns and on requests for student aid for one of his children, a federal grand jury indictment returned Tuesday alleges. The IRS originally charged Anthony Salters, 58, of Hillside earlier this year with filing a false federal income tax return in 2013 by stating that his business, Media Allies LLC, had no income.
