Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Another Paterson Shooting, With Two Struck, Brings Overall Victim List This Year To Nearly 70 It's happening every day now: Two more victims were wounded in an overnight shooting in Paterson. And as so often happens, both got themselves to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center following the shooting at the corner of Godwin Avenue and Straight Street around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. One of them, a 22-year-old man, was injured seriously, responders said, adding that a 17-year-old was also wounded. Neither was cooperating with investigators, they said. That makes nearly 70 people wounded by gunfire in Paterson so far this year, 15 of whom died.

Authorities: Elmwood Park Officers Nab Paterson Ex-Con With Loaded Gun A pair of Elmwood Park police officers nabbed a Paterson ex-con who authorities said was carrying a loaded handgun during a traffic stop. Paterson Shooting: 17-Year-Old Critical, 14-Year-Old Wounded A 17-year-old was critically wounded and a 14-year-old also was struck in a shooting at a Paterson street corner, authorities said. The older one was struck in the back by a bullet, while the other took one in the leg at East 18th and Governor streets around 11 p.m. Sunday, they said. Bergenfield Anti-blm Social Media Threat Involving Bombs, Guns, Suicide Vest Deemed A Hoax Bergenfield police were trying to determine who authored a social media thread full of threats to kill people in a variety of ways in retaliation against Black Lives Matter. “We are aware of an alarming Twitter post going around social media,” Bergenfield police wrote in their own post. “We want to thank everyone who reached out to the department to report this. Union County Man Who Thought He Was Buying Car In Paterson Shot, Robbed Instead A Union County man who went to Paterson thinking he was buying a car got shot in the leg and robbed instead, city police said.
