Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Home Health Aide Caught On Hidden Camera Admits Physically Abusing Clifton Woman, 90 Faced with footage from a hidden camera, a home health aide from North Bergen admitted that she abused a 90-year-old patient in the bedridden woman’s Clifton home, authorities said Tuesday. Feds: Middlesex County ID Thief Forged, Cashed $211,887 US Treasury Check A Middlesex County identity thief collected $211,887 by forging a stolen U.S. Treasury check, federal authorities said Tuesday. Federal agents arrested Bernard Lopez, 40, of Sayreville, in Florida on Monday, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. They charged him with bank fraud, theft of government funds and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutor: Elmwood Park Man, 50, Raped Pre-Teen An Elmwood Park man was charged with raping a pre-teen over the course of three weeks. Authorities arrested Hitendra Rakholia, a married, 50-year-old estimator, after local police “received information that [he] had engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 13,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Tuesday. Update: Door Dash Driver Swept Through Underground Tunnel Into Passaic River During Storm A Door Dash driver survived after she and her car were swept through a blocks-long underground tunnel and into the Passaic River during Monday's storm, city police said. Nathalia Bruno, 24, of Newark told police she was delivering food when her car got caught in a flash flood near the Benson Avenue tennis courts. Detectives Capture Two Charged With Attempted Murder In Englewood Shooting Englewood police detectives captured two men accused of shooting at another group during an ongoing dispute last month. Several people in a large group that had gathered on Palisade Place on June 4 were pelting police with rocks and other items when shots were fired on nearby Mattlage Place. Jersey City Girl, 17, Shot, Killed A 17-year-old girl was shot and killed Monday night in Jersey City, authorities said. Tyeah Garner was found with a single gunshot wound in the face at a single-family home on tree-lined Rutgers Avenue, near the corner of Sheffield Street, just after 10:30 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Bullet Fired At Luxury Englewood Complex Goes Into Neighbor's Apartment, Gunman Flees Residents of a luxury apartment building in Englewood have been on edge since someone in the building fired a bullet Sunday that went through a wall into another apartment.
