Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Resident, 61, Killed In Burlington County Fire, First Of Three Local Blazes In Under 24 Hours A fast-moving house fire killed a 61-year-old Burlington County man, authorities confirmed. Three other residents reportedly fled the flames, which responders said quickly engulfed the home and shot through the roof after igniting shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. 2 Dead, Infant Critical In Perth Amboy Crash Two people were killed and an infant hospitalized in critical condition after a horrific crash Friday night in Perth Amboy, responders said. The child apparently went into cardiac arrest after the 6:30 p.m. crash at Chamberlain Avenue and Convery Boulevard, they said. Fort Lee Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near GWB, Englewood Cliffs Driver Cited A 59-year-old Fort Lee pedestrian was struck and killed Friday near the George Washington Bridge, authorities said. Lan Zhang was crossing Bruce Reynolds Boulevard heading north when a 2005 Ford Econoline van turning left from southbound Lemoine Avenue hit her Friday morning, Capt. Ricky Mirkovic said. Driver Hospitalized In Ridgewood Amazon Van Crash A driver was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening after her car collided with an Amazon delivery van Friday afternoon in Ridgewood. Village police, firefighters and EMS responded along with a Bergen County sheriff’s officer to the crash at the intersection of South Pleasant Avenue and Grove Street.
