Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

SUVs Collide In Fair Lawn, Three 70-Somethings Hospitalized Three Fair Lawn residents were hospitalized Monday, including a driver who had to be freed by firefighters, after two SUVs collided, police said. Fair Lawn police, firefighters, EMS and Heavy Rescue responded to the 11:43 a.m. crash, which toppled a street sign at the intersection of George Street and Hopper Avenue. Franklin Lakes PD: Mahwah Driver In Utility Pole Crash Was DWI A Mahwah driver was drunk when he crashed his car into a utility pole in Franklin Lakes, authorities said. Christopher Cacioppo, 26, was charged with DWI and released to a responsible adult after his 2011 Nissan Altima slammed into the pole on High Mountain Road shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Capt. John Bakelaar said. The pole sustained heavy damage and the sedan had to be towed, the captain said. Cacioppo wasn't injured, he said.

Three Stabbed, Slashed in Englewood Brawl Englewood police were pursuing answers after a Sunday afternoon brawl sent three people to area hospitals with stab or slash wounds. Police responded to the 2:15 p.m. call of several people involved in a fight on West Palisade Avenue near Palisade Place, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. Update: Montvale Pedestrian, 55, Struck At NJ/NY Border Dies A 55-year-old pedestrian who was struck Friday night at the Rockland County border in Montvale died of her injuries, authorities confirmed. Responders found the Montvale resident in cardiac arrest, bleeding from a traumatic head wound, in the northbound lane of Chestnut Ridge Road a little more than 50 yards from the border, Police Chief Joseph Sanfilippo said.
