Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Construction Worker Falls From Fair Lawn Roof A 49-year-old construction worker was injured when he fell 15 feet off the roof of a Fair Lawn home. The Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the worker to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson after the Hopper Avenue mishap at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The victim, who lives in Newark, injured his back, neck and wrist, Metzler said.

Update: Maywood Man, 78, Struck In Chain-Reaction Crash Protects Dog From Harm A 78-year-old Maywood man was injured in a freak chain-reaction crash while protecting his dog from harm Sunday night, responders said. A 2012 Ford Explorer driven by a 17-year-old Rochelle Park man was headed west on East Central Avenue when it struck a legally parked vehicle that got pushed completely onto the sidewalk, hitting the victim as he walked his black Labrador shortly before 8:30 p.m., police said. Family Dog Severs Ear Lobe Of Old Tappan Girl, 2 A 2-year-old Old Tappan girl had her left ear lobe bitten off by the family dog in an unfortunate accident on Sunday, authorities said. The toddler inadvertently jumped on the border collie, who was sleeping, and was bitten around 1:30 p.m., Police Chief Thomas Shine said. She also sustained a puncture wound on her right arm, the chief said. She was in stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center and may require surgery, he said. Paterson Detectives Foil Street Robbery, Arrest Gunman Two men were being robbed at gunpoint on a dark street when a pair of Paterson detectives came to the rescue. South Jersey Boy, 4, Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot, Prosecutor Says A 4-year-old Burlington County boy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night, authorities said. The call came in from the the Brown Mills section of Pemberton Township, about five miles from Fort Dix, at 7:07 p.m., Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said.
