Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Manager Struck By Car Outside Popular River Edge Club UPDATE: The manager of a popular River Edge nightclub survived his injuries after being struck by a car outside the club Friday night, the owner said. Edward Kallen was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after being struck around 7 p.m. near the corner of Kinderkamack Road and Ackerson Street just off westbound Route 4. Morris County Pedestrian Killed On Route 23 In Wayne A Morris County man was struck and killed on Route 23 in Wayne Friday night, authorities said. Gavino Salazar, 27, of Pequannock was struck by the 2018 Honda Tucson near the Royal Car Wash on the northbound highway around 6:45 p.m., authorities said. Landlord Gets Three Years In Deaths Of Little Ferry Girl, 5, Grandmother In Fire A landlord who failed to follow state codes was sentenced Friday to a plea-bargained three years in state prison for a 2016 fire that killed a 5-year-old Little Ferry girl and her grandmother. Somerset Man Charged In Passaic Shooting Authorities announced Friday that a Somerset County man surrendered to police nine days earlier in connection with a shooting in the city of Passaic. Passaic Shooting Victim, 19, Hospitalized A 19-year-old shooting victim showed up Thursday night at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, triggering an investigation into what exactly happened, authorities confirmed Friday. The victim told police someone shot her in her car shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the heavily commercial area of Main Avenue near Burgess Place.
