Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Woman Struck By Train In Waldwick A woman was struck and severely injured by a commuter train Monday night in Waldwick, responders said. Atlantic Air One flew the 32-year-old victim to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center after landing at the municipal pool on Hopper Avenue, they said. Her condition couldn't immediately be determined. The victim suffered severe lower extremity injuries after being struck around 8:30 p.m. in the area of Frederick Street and Hewson Avenue, responders said. Lyndhurst Officer On Paid Leave During Internal Probe A veteran Lyndhurst police officer is on paid leave during an internal review, authorities confirmed. No details of the incident involving Sgt. Police Seek Hit-Run Minivan That Struck Teaneck Crossing Guard Teaneck police issued an alert for a silver-colored minivan that they said struck a crossing guard and kept going Monday afternoon. The crossing guard "was taken to the hospital as a precaution" after being hit around 3:20 p.m. on Teaneck Road near Route 4, Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said. The vehicle headed north on Teaneck Road toward Bergenfield, police said. Ex-Con Chased Down After Haledon Traffic Stop Packed Loaded Handgun, Police Report An ex-con who ran from a Haledon traffic stop was carrying a gun loaded with hollow-point bullets, said police who chased him down. Tractor Trailer Tips On Route 46 Ramp No injuries were reported after a tractor-trailer tipped before dawn Monday on the Route 46 ramp to the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 80 in Ridgefield Park.
