Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Paterson Man Who Survived Shooting Two Years Ago Shot And Killed Nearly two years to the day that he survived a shooting, a Paterson man was gunned down before dawn Saturday -- the Silk City's first homicide of 2020. Jacques Mills, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting in front of 57 Godwin Avenue, across from Summer Street, shortly before 5:30 a.m., authorities said. Teens Charged In Middlesex County Arson Fire Authorities charged two teens with torching a Middlesex County commercial building Thursday night. Arrested Friday were Ryan Deahl and Eric Mejia-Vides, both 18. Both are charged with arson, burglary and conspiracy to commit both, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Middlesex Borough Police Chief Matthew Geist said in a joint release. Deahl also was charged with having a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, they said. Prosecutor: Quartet ID'd In 30-Pound Pot Shipment Found With Stolen Gun In North Arlington A trio of New Jersey residents and a Virginia man plotting the sale of 30 pounds of pot were caught with a stolen gun during a traffic stop in North Arlington, authorities said. Police Investigate River Vale Teen's Report Of Driver Saying Something To Her A 13-year-old River Vale girl’s report of an encounter with a strange driver Friday afternoon didn’t appear related to a troubling incident in neighboring Hillsdale, authorities said. Toms River Teen Admits Killing Mom In Front Of Younger Brother UPDATE: A Toms River man admitted Friday that he killed his mother in front of his younger brother late last summer. Edgar Diaz, 18, of Manchester, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in Superior Court in Toms River in exchange for a 20-year prison term at a scheduled March 6 sentencing. Driver Survives Wild Route 80 Rollover A driver survived a wild crash off Route 80 in South Hackensack before dawn Friday with no serious injuries, responders said. The vehicle missed the Exit 65 ramp on the westbound highway around 4:30 a.m., then went through a fence and a creek before rolling over and coming to rest on Wesley Street, they said. Dominican National Who Brought 2 Pounds Of Heroin From Rockland To NJ Sentenced A Dominican national who smuggled more than two pounds of heroin from Rockland County into New Jersey was sentenced Thursday in Newark to a plea-bargained 34 months in federal prison. Bienvenido Perez Lazala, 31, who previously admitted his role in moving the drug, must serve the entire sentence because there's no parole in the federal prison system.
