Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Cresskill Resident Says Neighbor Sucker-Punched Him Over Blown Leaves With snow on the ground, it’s been quiet for the most part on a Cresskill street where a resident said a neighbor sucker-punched him last month while he was blowing leaves. Paramus High School Evacuated, Small Fire Doused A small fire briefly cleared Paramus High School early Monday afternoon. The fire broke out in a ballast that holds an electric light behind the stage area of the school auditorium shortly after 1 p.m., Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Custodians quickly doused the blaze, he said. Paramus firefighters were joined by their Oradell colleagues and borough police. All were able to return a short time later, Ehrenberg said.

Hackensack Middle School Student Hospitalized After Colliding With SUV A young student was hospitalized after he ran into the side of a passing SUV near Hackensack Middle School early Monday afternoon, authorities said. A witness told police the 12-year-old boy suddenly darted across Union Street in the middle of the block near Clay Street and smacked into the SUV around 1 p.m., city police Lt. Anthony Natale said. The impact broke off a side mirror, Natale said. The boy was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries, the lieutenant said. Drug-Raiding Paterson Police Uncover Major Cockfighting Ring: 50 Roosters, Steroids, More Nearly 50 roosters were being rounded up Wednesday after Paterson police out on a series of citywide pre-dawn drug raids discovered a major cockfighting ring at the end of a dead-end street. Rochelle Park PD: 5 From Four Bergen Towns Charged In SnapChat-Arranged Drug Deal Robbery Two Bergen County women used SnapChat to lure a Rochelle Park man to a darkened parking lot where three accomplices beat and robbed him of nearly $900 worth of drugs, an iPod and Airpods, authorities said Tuesday.
