Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Passaic Victim Found After Shooting Half-Block Away A 40-year-old Passaic man shot at a Main Street business overnight Saturday made it up the block before police found him, authorities said. Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman didn’t say whether he or someone else pulled the trigger in the 3:14 a.m. shooting. Overnight Rockland-Bound Train Strikes, Kills Man On Paterson Tracks A man was struck and killed on the tracks in Paterson before dawn Saturday by a commuter train from Hoboken that was bound for Rockland County. The last Main Line train of the night -- due to arrive in Suffern at 2:41 a.m. -- struck the man near the Market Street bridge, just west of the Paterson train station, at 2:18 a.m., NJ Transit spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said. The train had left Hoboken at 1:32 a.m., she said. None of the 35 people on board reported any injuries, Torbic added. More details were expected later.

Photos: 68-Year-Old Hillsdale Woman Rescued After Falling Into Well A 68-year-old Hillsdale woman was rescued after falling into an 8-foot dry well on Friday. The longtime area resident sustained only minor injuries, responders said. She'd complained of head and back pain, Detective Travis Woods said. RAV4 Rolls, Skids In Rainy Mahwah Crash Near NY Border An SUV rolled onto its roof and skidded about 25 feet after colliding with another vehicle during the rainy Thursday morning rush in Mahwah. Both drivers involved in the crash on Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) near Grove Street were out of their vehicles when responding officers arrived just after 8:30 a.m., Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said. The RAV4 driver was headed north and lost control of the vehicle, which struck a Subaru headed in the opposite direction, Jaffe said. Both drivers were taken to The Valley Hospital, he said.
