Longtime Cranford Resident Jane Heyburn Dies, 60 Longtime Cranford resident Jane Heyburn died on March 18, surrounded by her family at home, her obituary says. She was 60 years old. A 1980 graduate of Cranford High School, Jane went on to earn her degree in business management from the University of Phoenix, prior to a 38-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, according to her obituary. Jane was being remembered as an avid gardener who loved to dance and spend time at the Jersey Shore. Life Cut Short For 'Friendly, Reliable' Westfield Recreation Worker Lauren Harmer Lauren Harmer, of Westfield, NJ, died at her home on March 11, 2023, her obituary says. She was 28 years old. Lauren graduated from East Stroudsburg University, and went on to work for Westfield's recreation department as the events specialist. Former Lyndhurst HS Football Captain Nick Cimicata Dies, 20 Former Lyndhurst High School Varsity Football Captain Nick Cimicata died on Thursday, March 16. He was 20 years old. Nick played basketball and football at Lyndhurst High School (Class of 2021), where he was also the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America, his obituary says. Affectionately known as "Nicky Blue," he also served as the coach of Savino's in the township's Little League program, and as a 10U travel coach. Elizabeth Dog Fighting Accident Leaves 2 Pit Bulls Dead, 3 Women Hospitalized Police opened fire on two of five fighting pit bulls who bit three women Tuesday morning, March 21 at their Elizabeth home, authorities said. Police were called to the Amity Street home when the dogs attacked a person who tried separating them, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office. Police shot and killed two of the dogs. The three women who were bitten were hospitalized in unknown condition, authorities said. Their condition was not immediately known.

Firefighters Battle Massive Church Blaze In South Jersey A fire ravaged a Florence Township church on Monday evening, March 20, and burned into the following morning. Firefighters worked to put out the 8-alarm blaze at the Fountain of Life Center, on the 2000 block of Columbus Road. Masturbating Security Guard Does It Again 10 Days Later, Secaucus Police Say A security guard arrested for masturbating in front of a co-worker did it again 10 days later, authorities said. Rideef Scruggs, 36, of East Orange, touched himself sexually in front of a coworker while working at 1000 Riverside Station Boulevard, and charged March 7 with lewdness and criminal sexual contact, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Scruggs did the exact same thing about 10 days later, and was slapped with the same charges on March 17, Miller said. He was issued his complaint summons and was released from police custody.
