Convicted NJ State Trooper Killer Sundiata Acoli Can Live Final Years Free Man The 85-year-old man convicted of killing a New Jersey State Trooper in 1973 has been granted prison release by the New Jersey Supreme Court after serving a 49-year sentence, overturning a 2019 Appellate Court ruling. The court's majority opinion found Parole Board did not meet its obligation to prove that Clark Edward Squire, who changed his name to Sundiata Acoli, would commit another crime if released. 1,000-Pound Shark Pinged Off NJ Coast A 1,000-pound shark was tracked off the New Jersey coast last month. Ironbound, who measure 12-feet 4-inches long, was tracked April 28 in South Jersey, but as of May 9 was swimming along the shores of North Carolina. Ironbound is named after West Ironbound Island near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where he was first tagged in 2019. He is 53 white shark SPOT-tagged by OCEARCH in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean.

2 Dead In Montclair Police Pursuit-Crash: AG Two people died following a pursuit involving Montclair police Tuesday, May 10 in Glen Ridge, state officials said. Two officers attempted to stop the car on Bloomfield Avenue around 4:30 a.m., but the driver took off, lost control, veered off the roadway then struck a tree, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office said in a release. The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at 9 a.m., while a third occupant was being treated for injuries, the AG's office said. This investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4.

Three-Alarm Fire Tears Through Elizabeth Home A three-alarm fire tore through a home in Elizabeth Monday, May 9. The Adams Avenue blaze broke out around 6:15 p.m., with flames apparently running from the basement to the attic. Homeless Man Dies In Hoboken Park: Police A homeless man was pronounced dead in a Hoboken park Monday, May 9. Police were called to Church Square Park in the early morning hours for the unresponsive man, Hoboken Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was not believed to have been suspicious.

Human Fetus Found In North Jersey Homeowner's Basement: Prosecutor North Jersey homeowners found a human fetus in a storage container in their basement Mother's Day, authorities said. Wayne police officers were called to the local home around 5:45 p.m., Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Wayne Police Chief Jack McNiff said. 92-Year-Old Woman Struck By Mustard Yellow Sedan In Glen Rock: Police A 92-year-old woman was struck by a sedan while in a parking lot in Glen Rock Mother's Day, authorities said. The woman was crossing on the 800 block of Prospect Street when a 2010 Honda driven by a 36-year-old Fair Lawn man hit her around 6:15 p.m., Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. The Honda driver remained at the scene and the woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, by the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, with non-life-threatening injuries, Ackerman said.
