Falling Tree Kills Baby Riding In Car In Western Mass: DA's Office A infant was killed Friday afternoon, Feb. 3, when a falling tree crashed into the car they were riding in, authorities said. The incident happened just before noon along Route 57 (Feeding Hills Road) in Southwick, MA, Hamden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said.  The driver, a 23-year-old woman from Winstead, CT, was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries. Gulluni said the child was the woman's niece. A portion of Route 57 near Foster Road was shut down Friday afternoon as police cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

31-Year-Old Man Shot In Central Mass: Police Worcester police said they are investigating a shooting in the area of Aetna Street that happened early Friday morning, Feb. 3. Police responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter call just before 12:30 a.m. They found the 31-year-old bleeding from a gunshot wound. Officers gave him aid, and paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, Worcester police said. They did not release the man's name or an update on his condition.  Police are investigating the shooting and ask anyone with information to contact detectives at (508) 799-8651.

Quick-Thinking Blackstone Bank Tellers Catches Scammer In The Act: Police A vigilant bank teller in Blackstone saved one customer thousands of dollars after a scammer tried to steal cash from their accounts.  Kimberly Maine, 51, of Florida was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 1, after she allegedly attempted to use fake documents to pose as a customer and withdrawal a large sum of money, Blackstone police said. 'Disgrace': Reactions Heated For New Mass Bill To Allow Inmates To Donate Organ To Cut Sentence Two Massachusetts state representatives last month proposed legislation that would allow prisoners to shorten their sentences if they donate bone marrow or organs.  Reps. Judith Garcia (Suffolk) and Carlos González (Springfield) presented the bill as a way to bolster the number of organs and bone marrow available to those in need and "restore bodily autonomy" for people behind bars.
