Phillip Sgroi says in the suit filed in Middlesex County Superior Court that he was at a Madison (Morris County) location on Feb. 11, 2022, when he purchased his beverage. Sgroi's suit alleges the lid came off and the "excessively hot" coffee in the cup spilled on him. Sgroi said he was rendered disabled and suffered internal and external wounds on his body. Person Changing Tire Struck, Killed By Truck On Beltway: State Police A person changing a tire on their car was struck and killed by a truck on the Capital Beltway early Sunday, March 10 in Fairfax County, police said. The unidentified person was in the shoulder of the westbound lanes near Exit 176 when they were struck just before 3:40 a.m., Virginia State Police said. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.  The Virginia State Police Fairfax Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation. Charges are pending.

17-Year-Old Dead In High-Speed Prince William County Crash A 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Woodbridge early Sunday, March 10, authorities said. The unidentified boy was speeding southbound on Richmond Highway in a Toyota Corolla when he lost control and crossed over the median into the northbound lanes around 4:50 a.m., Prince William County police said. The boy struck a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the Pacifica, ages 42 and 46, were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officer Shot Responding To Domestic Incident In Mercer County A police officer was shot in Mercer County while responding to a domestic incident, authorities said. Hamilton officers were called to a disturbance on the 1800 block of Orchard Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when the gunman opened fire on the officers, the department said. The injured officer was taken to CHS-Fuld and is expected to survive. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey Attorney General's Office are investigating this incident.
