Shelton Librarian Opens The Book On Plumb Memorial Shelton Librarian Opens The Book On Plumb Memorial
Shelton Librarian Opens The Book On Plumb Memorial SHELTON, Conn. -- No matter how long you have lived in Shelton, Elspeth Lydon, director of Plumb Memorial Library, said there are a few things that may surprise you.  The most common question she said library staffers get is whether the Plumb Memorial Library was ever a home. The answer? No. It was constructed as a public library. However, there is a clause in the will that if it ever stops being a library, the property and building revert to the donor’s family – descendants of the Plumbs and Wakelees.  Some more history: the building was funded by the estate of David Wells Plumb and constr…

Fairfield Woman Tells Tales Of Being A Leap Year Baby FAIRFIELD, Conn -- Fairfield resident Geri Pry has some fun stories about being a Leap Year baby. One is the fact that her birthdate of Feb. 29 is simply a great conversation starter.  "People will hesitate a second and they say something like, 'Wow, how old are you anyway?" she said. "A guy at the CVS pharmacy said to me last week, 'What are you 18 or something?' I said 'Thanks a lot; that would make me 72!' He said he was never good at math." Her favorite story is the one about when she was born. She was her parent’s first baby and was a couple of weeks late.  "…

Scarsdale Resident Shares Stories Of Being A Leap Year Baby SCARSDALE, N.Y. --- Josh Fisher's favorite story about his Leap Year Day birthday is when he turned 21 and had to wait until midnight of March 1 to be served a cocktail. Being born on a Leap Year day has always been a topic of conversation, he said, with the most common question being: "What day do you celebrate on?" The Scarsdale resident's answer? "Whatever day my wife says." All joking aside, over the years he'd pick Feb. 28 or March 1 depending on the day it would fall on. "My grandmother's birthday was Feb. 28 so I usually picked the first," he said. Thi…

Larchmont Shop Owner Changes Strategy, Takes Business On Road LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- It's not every business owner that is able to reinvent her company and still survive, but Melanie Rose, owner of beadz, has been able to do that and more. Rose's Larchmont-based jewelry business, where folks can make their own items or buy items as gifts, has been in business for 21 years, 17 of which included a retail location on Boston Post Road. At her storefront locale, she sold beads, handmade accessories and offered parties. She closed the shop three years ago as the retail end of the business was soft, and decided to reinvent the business -- without a store. So far…
