Stamford Museum Boasts Its Own 'Sugarmeister' For Tapping Maple Trees STAMFORD, Conn. -- Will Kies, director of education at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, has been tapping maple syrup on and off for nearly 20 years. But this year, at least from what he's seen so far, may be the most challenging. "We're at the mercy of Mother Nature," Kies said of the maple-sugaring season. This year, thanks to cold, frigid temperatures -- sap flows only when the temperature is above freezing -- will most likely be a shortened season.
