Before settling into the Hudson Valley, Zak! previously spent time in the New York Daily News newsroom and worked for hyperlocal digital news outlets on Long Island. He wrote sports for The Ithacan and The Ithaca Journal before taking his talents to the Pacific Northwest, where he served as the sports editor at the Shoshone News-Press until heading back east to work with Daily Voice.

Toppled Tree Temporarily Ties Up Traffic On I-495 In Virginia Several lanes were closed on I-495 in Fairfax County on Thursday afternoon when a tree went down and blocked the roadway. The right two southbound lanes and shoulder of the interstate were blocked by crews at around 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 15 as first responders worked to clear the scene in Annandale. 29-Year-Old Accused Of Sexually Abusing Younger Girl In Northwest DC: MPD A 19-year-old man has been arrested following an investigation into the sexual abuse of a woman in Washington, DC. Nelson Torres has been apprehended and charged with second-degree sex abuse after assaulting a young girl earlier this week, the Metropolitan Police Department announced. Police say that at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, the Northwest DC resident engaged in unwanted sexual contact with his victim in the 800 block of Jefferson Street NW. Snow Likely In Most Of Maryland, Virginia Heading Into Holiday Weekend: Forecasters A new round of snow could be coming to parts of the DMV region as soon as Friday night or Saturday morning, according to forecasters. Metro Station Evacuated For Smoke On Platform In Southeast DC (Updated) Some Metro riders in Southeast DC got a scare on Thursday afternoon after first responders evacuated a station and temporarily suspended service due to smoky conditions caused by a fire. Shortly after 1 p.m. on Feb. 15, DC Fire and EMS personnel reported that they were called to the Eastern Market Metro station, where there was smoke on the platform, officials say. Sewage Overflow At Mount St. Mary's University Prompts Public Health Alert The Frederick County Health Department is cautioning residents to avoid certain waterways after a sewage overflow on Mount St. Mary's University campus on the east side of Route 15. Man Who Raped Young Girl In MD Gets Prison Time, Must Register As Lifetime Sex Offender: Judge A Frederick man will spend years in prison for raping a 12-year-old child who ran away from home, the State's Attorney's Office announced.
