Tornado Tears Through 100 Homes Leaving Virginia Beach Community Reeling A record-breaking tornado wreaked havoc in Virginia Beach over the weekend has left a community in mourning. While no lives were lost, between 50 and 100 homes were destroyed by the EF-3 tornado that touched down in the Great Neck portion of the city Sunday evening, April 30. The local fire department responded to the Peterson Yacht Basin around 11:40 a.m., where they recovered the body. The suspects fled on foot and the worker was hospitalized for treatment.
