Melrose Mayor Honors Cops Who Helped Rescue Elderly Couple From Burning Home Two Melrose police officers who helped an elderly couple get to safety when their house was on fire recently received commendations from the city's mayor. Officers Cole Hinchey and Allen Troche responded to an alarm call on Brunswick Park around 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11. Saugus Drug Runner Who Helped Move 100,000 Fentanyl Pills Gets 2 Years: Feds A 46-year-old Saugus woman who pleaded guilty to her role in a large drug ring that sold fake Percocet pills that were spiked with fentanyl was sentenced to two years in federal prison Friday, Dec. 16. Boston Man Offered To Help Lady Carry Groceries, Then He Stabbed Her: DA A Boston man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants was arrested and charged with multiple attacks, including stabbing an elderly lady in the chest, authorities said. Ranlee Flores, 34, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault on Friday, Dec. 16, the Suffolk County District Attorney said. Thousands Without Power As Snow Blankets Parts Of Western Mass As much as a foot of snow has fallen in parts of Western Massachusetts on Friday, Dec. 16, with more on the way. But along with the beautiful views come traffic issues and power outages. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) lists more than 3,000 power outages in pockets across the state, with most reported in the west, where snow is at its heaviest. Two Bodies Found Inside Huntington Home: DA Police found two bodies inside a Huntington home this week. Gary Rom, 70, and Evelyn Korfias, 59, were found inside the house on 12 Nagler Cross Road on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 14, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said on Friday. The medical examiner is attempting to determine the exact cause of death, but, at this point, investigators do not believe it was foul play. State police detectives are working with Huntington police to investigate the scene.

Friends, Family Wrestle With Death Of Boston Man As Alleged Killer Faces Murder Charges As the man accused of killing Jose Aponte was arraigned on murder charges Friday, Dec. 16, his family is working to keep his spirit alive. Michael Perry, 37, is accused of killing Aponte in a Boston apartment on 35 Northampton St. sometime last week, the Suffolk County District Attorney said. GoFundMe Created For Mother Of 3 Found Killed In Stoughton The family of Amber Bucker has started a fundraiser to help pay for the mother of three's funeral. Stoughton police Buckner's body at an outbuilding at 743 Park St. Tuesday morning, Dec. 13. Officials have not said how she died, but investigators are treating it as a homicide. Boston Man Faces Life In Prison In Alleged Fatal Shooting Earlier This Year: DA A 24-year-old Boston man was arraigned on second-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting death of a man in August, authorities said. Lowell Police Add More Busts In Operation That Took On 'Cocaine Cowboys' Lowell police and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan revealed new charges and more arrests as part of their three-year investigation to break up one of the area's most prolific drug gangs called Cocaine Cowboys. Burglars Bungle Concord ATM Robbery, But Escape In High-Speed Getaway: Police A trio of burglars attempted to steal an ATM earlier this week but succeeded only in making a mess, authorities said. Investigators released photos from the crime scene and of the would-be thieves in the hopes of making a quick capture.
