Rye High Schooler Wins Award At NYC Film Competition RYE, N.Y. -- Though she is only still in high school, Rye High School rising junior Francesa Murdoch is already making waves. Murdoch's short film, "Intervention," which she wrote and directed in 2014, was screened at the Community Access New York City Mental Health Film Festival. Murdoch won the Young Filmmaker Competiton at the festival. "Intervention" is about a teenage boy suffering from anxiety and depression while his friend Sarah tries to help him, although she is too late. Burt Solomon, 84, Mount Kisco, Ex-Bedford Schools Trustee, Movie Publicist Burton Solomon, 84, a longtime resident of Northern Westchester, died on Thursday in Mount Kisco, where he lived. Born in 1933 in the Bronx, Solomon graduated from Evander Childs High School and from Fordham University in 1953. He served in the United States Army stationed in Ft. Benning, GA and then attended Syracuse University earning a Master's in Radio and Television in 1957. In 1959, he became a movie publicist in New York, working for Paramount Pictures and as the Director of Publicity of Universal Pictures. Yorktown Museum Celebrates 50 Years YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- For more than 50 years, the Yorktown Museum has been one of the best kept secrets in town. The museum, located at 1974 Commerce Street, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a birthday bash on July 22. Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Feast Celebrates 95th Anniversary VERPLANCK, N.Y. -- For 95 years, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel has been a celebration of Italian heritage in Verplanck. Pleasantville's Will Shortz Profiled In New York Times PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The New York Times just took a look inside the Pleasantville home of Will Shortz, who edits the crossword puzzle for the paper. Shortz admitted he was embarrassed by the state of the room, which has more than 25,000 puzzle books, dating back to 1534, along with other puzzles and pamphlets. Shortz has been with the Times since 1993 and he told the newspaper his goal was to draw in a younger and more diverse audience. New Castle, Utilities Seek Solution To Reduce Multiple Poles NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -- There are 304 multiple utility poles in New Castle and the town is looking to do something about it. The town board has been working with Con Edison, Verizon and Altice to develop a plan to pare down the number of multiple utility poles. Councilman Adam Brodsky said it is an aesthetic issue and a safety concern, causing poor visibility on sidewalks and roadways.
